While nursing this morning, Fausto stopped, looked at his hand, and began signing "leche." Each time he opened and closed his hand to sign the word, I said it along with him, "le-che, le-che, le-che." He loves this game, and I love his "Helen Keller" look of comprehension and delight in being able to communicate unambiguously. But today there was a twist. After both of us said leche a number of times, Fausto looked at his hand -- the symbolic milk -- and tried to "nurse" from one of his fingers!
