Deja Vu

Genetics are an amazing thing. We can't get over the similarities between our two little monkeys. Although one arrived weeks late and the other weeks early, they are extremely similar in ways that keep surprising us. Both are in the NICU due to low blood sugar. In Fausto's case, this wasn't discovered until after he had a seizure. In Enrique's we're lucky that it was caught just hours after birth, so the talented and compassionate team of doctors and nurses have been busy making sure he stays stable and that his sugar levels and breathing all progress. (With low blood sugar in babies breathing is often the first thing compromised.)

The two boys also look so much alike that were it not for their different hair color (red and black, respectively), we'd soon be scratching our heads about whose baby pictures we're looking at. One very cute similarity between the two is that they both do an incredible amount of what they call "sleep grinning." This involuntary but adorable behavior results in spontaneous smiling, usually right as baby is falling asleep or waking up. It's about the sweetest thing you can imagine.
