On Saturday we celebrated Fausto's first birthday. Friends arrived in Memphis from far and wide, including baby's padrinos, Alec and Debbie from New York, and Curt and Lorna who drove 12 hours from Lansing, Michigan to spend the weekend with us! We enjoyed a lovely afternoon of friends, fun, and fried chicken, but the highlight was watching Fausto's first encounter with cupcakes. As you can tell by the pictures, he was a little suspicious of having a mass of people singing while thrusting fire at him, but he soon decided that the whole strange ritual was a worthwhile trade-off for his homemade carrot cupcake, which he completely devoured! The last picture is of him clapping - his favorite way of expressing pleasure.
