Fausto is now seven and a half months and is still 99% breastfed. We've tried feeding him the standard first baby foods -- rice cereal, banana, applesauce -- none of which he has been crazy about. Then on Christmas we gave him a taste of a sweet potato, carrot, and butternut squash soup simmered in apple cider with sage and ginger. This was a gorgeous, complex dish -- which he devoured! Then on New Year's I gave him a fingertip dipped in hummus. Again, baby couldn't get enough. Wondering if it was a fluke, we gave him some more hummus the next day -- very garlicky, lemony stuff from a fantastic Lebanese restaurant -- and he again loved it. Apparently his aversion to "real" food wasn't that it was too different from mama milk, but that it was just too boring. That's my boy!
P.S. I just reread "The craving report" (below at left) and suddenly Fausto's mature palate makes a lot more sense.
