California!

Last Friday a five week old Baby Fausto took his first plane ride to California where he's been having lots of adventures and letting his parents dress him funny in silly theme onesies. Here are some of the highlights:

Friday: A shortcut on the way home from the airport inspired a stop at my childhood home, which I hadn't seen in 20 years! Yet another lesson: mommyhood can make you so stupidly nostalgic it can seem vitally important to have a picture of you and your baby in front of a house in the hood (left).

Saturday: First stop, Berkeley! Daddy did a big 65 mile ride with his cycling buddies while mama and baby visited lots of old haunts. First we went to Bittersweet for hot chocolate and a visit with Tiffany and Sadie, then off to the Farmer's Market where Leah and Rebecca joined forces, and then to Cafe Gratitude, where we introduced mama's student, Leslie, from Rhodes, and baby Fausto, to crazy yummy raw vegan food. Still not satiated, we finished the day with Zachary's Pizza at the Man-Man Manor.

Sunday:
Baby's first bike race (see below, left). And daddy's first race this year. Daddy did great, competing in two races alongside several national champions and even a world champion.

Monday: We stopped by Stanford to take care of early admission, just in case college goes the the way of the insane preschool waiting lists. If Professor Andrea (below) is on the committee, we think Fausto is a shoe-in!

Tuesday: Recovering from the whirlwind before we do it all again. Baby and Papa are napping as I type...
