Strong work, little monkey!

Baby Fausto had his first visit with his (non-crisis) pediatrician this morning, and we're delighted to report that all continues to look excellent. For those who prefer status reports to be quantifiable, here are the numbers:

Birth weight on 5/20: 6 lbs 12 oz
Hospital admission weight on 5/23: 6 lbs 3 oz
Weight at 2 wks old, 6/3: 7 lbs 12 oz

It's pretty standard for newborns to lose 10% of their weight right after birth and then gain it back in the next week or two. That our little monkey lost so much weight, regained it, and then added another pound makes his parents, who are still a little raw from everything, very happy indeed.

Hi Teresa,

David Law sent me your blog link. Congratulations! I'm glad that Fausto seems to be on track. Karen and I were due June 1st and are now in the impatient waiting mode. We're also hoping to avoid any chemical or surgical intervention, but are too chicken to go for the home birth. It is good to read about your experience with everything.
