Happy New Year!

The Sea Monkey is now 24 weeks old! Phew. We bid our goodbyes to an amazing year by confirming that kayaking is indeed still possible (and quite comfortable) while 6 months pregnant. I did take the edge off things a little by splurging on the rental of a spot for my kayak on the marina, since the protruding belly makes it really difficult to get the boat on and off of the car. Now, though, all I have to do is drive ten minutes and transport the boat 3 feet into the water and I'm paddling the Mississippi, a river that, fortunately, behaves more like the Bay than like most fresh water. And although it's a far cry from idyllic California, it's pretty neat to paddle past barges and under bridges, all within site of downtown Memphis.

Oops, this is supposed to be the Sea Monkey's blog! Right! So, lots of kicking these days; Monkey is really big and getting bigger; sleep is getting trickier; and we had a really fun baby shower in Houston attended by 40 relatives from Guadalajara. Did you know they make night-vision baby monitors? Neither did we. Now we have one to test on the teenager for a few months. Just to make sure it's reliable, of course.
