Devoted blog readers,
Sorry for the long silence. As I was getting to the end of the first trimester, my symptoms got worse instead of better all the way until the switch got flipped, transporting me to the golden, glowing second trimester. While I didn't want to have several consecutive weeks of blogs that said things like, "pregnancy is stupid! Figure out another way to have a baby if you really must have one," it seems honest and safe to give it to you in retrospect, from my current vantage, pregnancy's promised land. (But yeah, on my bad days for a couple of months there I was pretty convinced this was the stupidest thing I'd ever gotten myself into, which is saying a lot.)
So I'm now nearly 16 weeks pregnant. (Damn! How did that happen?) I'm no longer sick, and I'm out of the closet at work. Also, my pants no longer fit. They did one day, and the next they literally exploded, the button popping right off before I left for work last week. But I feel good! I'm back to running normal distances, continue to ride my bike to work 5 days a week, and have started prenatal yoga. But the most exciting thing is that the monkey had its first taste of rock climbing this morning! Not real climbing, mind you, but buildering in view of the Mississippi on a 200 foot horizontal wall of cut granite. (It's the best we can do in Memphis.) I've been missing play so much (real play: kayaking, climbing, mt. biking...) that I nearly wept at the sight of the chalked up wall and strips of athletic tape discarded on the sidewalk. Now my fingertips are red and burning, and I feel more like myself than I have in ages. So yeah, we're back!
