Week 8: Elbows and Hands, Just Clap Your Hands

Yep, the sea monkey (it still has no discernible sex) now has elbows and knees!

I got to rub bellies over the weekend with three of my pregnant cousins, María, Mónica, and Alma and share the news with the family in Mexico. The vibe out there is that it's a girl, and everyone is excited (in the chills down your spine sort of way) that the baby is due on my grandmother's birthday. Abuelita was the absolute mythic matriarch, who is missed terribly and invoked constantly, so it really would be something if this one decided for that to be her or his birthday too. The other funny thing about the pregnant lady reunion was that we all had the same cravings. The first day Alma and I passed a plate of grated carrots drenched in lime back and forth. That night Mónica and I reveled in virgin piñas coladas, and the next night looked at our tuna carpaccio sadly while our husbands hungrily devoured our shares. But I took advantage of the sea monkey's thing for cholesterol (that's what bones are built out of!) and ate huevos rancheros every morning. Yum.
